International WWII Conference 2005

From October 5 through October 9, 2005, historians, World War II veterans and other participants from all over the world will gather in New Orleans, Louisiana to discuss the evolution and implications of World War II thought and writings over the last 60 years. Visitors are invited to attend one of the largest, most significant World War II conferences to commemorate the 60th Anniversary of the end of World War II. Historians, World War II veterans and other participants from all over the world will gather to discuss World War II thought and writings over the last 60 years. Presentations are accessible to all levels of personal and professional interests in World War II and will be commensurate with audience interaction. You will meet Medal of Honor recipients, “Rosie the Riveters”, foreign resistance fighters, distinguished veterans, journalists and historians.

National D-Day Museum receives $5 million campaign gift

The National D-Day Museum, America’s National World War II Museum, located in New Orleans has received a $5 million campaign gift – its largest gift to date – from former Netscape CEO, James Barksdale. Barksdale, a member of the Museum’s board of trustees, has designated his gift to the Parade Ground – a major focal point of the Museum’s $282 million expansion project and capital campaign. “For me, it was an easy decision,” said Barksdale. “The National D-Day Museum is dedicated to educating our country’s children about this epic time in the history of our world. The price of peace and the consequences of war is a lesson that we must teach to present and future generations. No one does it better than The National D-Day Museum.”

An Interview with Military Historian David M. Glantz – Book Review

We recently had an opportunity to briefly correspond with military historian Col (Ret) David M. Glantz. He is the author of numerous works on the Second World War and his studies on various Eastern Front battles are among some of the most in-depth and accurate works currently available. His work in this area continues and we were lucky enough to get him to take a brief timeout from his busy schedule to talk to us.

Into the Storm – A Study in Command – Book Review

Although entirely different than many of Clancy’s works of fiction, Into the Storm: A Study in Command is filled with useful information and is certainly worth a look for anyone interested in the military aspects of the first Gulf War. The book also contains a fairly in-depth account of General Franks experiences in Vietnam, and his look of a foot in that war. The story of how he struggled and largely overcame the limitations of this injury make for fascinating reading.
