The Armchair General magazine “team” will make its first ever appearance at a college football bowl game on December 30 at the Bell Helicopter Armed Forces Bowl in Dallas. Well, ACG won’t actually be taking the field at Gerald J. Ford Stadium—among other things, we lack a formidable offensive line and our “quarterback” (ACG Editor in Chief Jerry Morelock) is well past his football playing days. The game’s featured teams, Army and SMU, will be providing the excitement on the gridiron. Yet, Armchair General and Weider History Group will be there on the sidelines to host the national kickoff for Weider’s first-ever book series.

Earlier this month, Weider Publications released the first book in the War Stories series we’re publishing: The Pacific Volume One: Pearl Harbor to Guadalcanal. The series incorporates interviews with veterans into a thoroughly researched narrative, enhanced by photographs, maps and graphics to help readers better understand the campaigns and battles of World War II. We highly recommend the book as a “must buy” on our 2010 Holiday Shopping Guide list. See “Even More Books for Holiday Gifts.”

The ACG/WHG team present at the game includes War Stories author Jay Wertz, who interviewed dozens of veterans to write this series, and ACG Editor in Chief Jerry Morelock, who is War Stories editor. Copies of the book may be purchased at the booth, and the pair will be available to sign and personalize copies.

Armchair General and Weider History Group invite all those attending the game and anyone in the Dallas area to stop by our booth at the Bell Helicopter Armed Forces Bowl on December 30.
