This is always a great meeting. I’ve been to three of the previous four. It’s a place where you can learn so much about WWII and meet top historians and brave veterans. I met Hal Baumgarten (Omaha Beach) and James Megellas (82nd Airborne’s most decorated officer ever). Also Rick Atkinson, Conrad Crane, Rob Dalessandro, Carlo D’Este and a bunch more top historians. Plus I can scamper the 50 yards to the beach when the sessions are out and get some sun. Helmsley Sandcastle Hotel is located right on Lido Beach.
Lounge chats are great with plenty of glass clinking!
I have not attended one of the American History Forum’s Sarasota Conferences; however, I did attend their tour a few years ago to Normandy. That was a wonderful experience that I will remember for the rest of my life. Everyone on that tour raved about Sarasota! You can bet I’ll be there this year!
