I just thought about this book and found this review. I too read the book 15-20 years ago and thoroughly enjoyed it. Now, as a combat veteran myself, I plan to find my old paperback or buy/borrow another copy and read it again to see if it is still as fresh now as it was when I was a young teen.

I first read this novel 15 or so years ago as a teenager. It is an amazing story that rings of truth and being a first person narrative rather than a novel. I'd love to read the unabridged version.

If you read the post-script about Billy Dickson's life, it just reinforces the idea that the book is far from fiction.
